GOLETA, Calif. -
An upcoming Super Bowl commercial has quite the flap involving a dog from Goleta. It’s got the vintage sound of Bob Dylan singing and on top of a Budweiser beer wagon, is a Dalmatian from Goleta.
The dog's official name is CG Fyrehouse N Xanadu's Phoebe. Her breeder got a call for a commercial shoot a few months back.
They wanted an adult Dalmatian and also checked out a granddaughter from one of the 17 liters Eleanor Winters has overseen.
"Worked out they wanted Fancy and Phoebe and one of them would be a second. Turned out my Phoebe got it and Fancy didn't," said Winters.
She knew it was a Budweiser commercial but it was somewhat secretive. Soon she said, "I finally got the picture that it was THE Budweiser commercial for the Super Bowl.
One look at the ears and jowls pushed around by the wind and you are caught up in the message as it is revealed with a flying shot of the Budweiser wagon and a moving shot through an open field. The message is not specifically about drinking beer.
"They had a wind machine to get that affect," said Winters. "They liked the way her ears blew in the wind. It fit into whatever idea they had about showing off that they are now using wind power to make Budweiser" When the commercial link just came out "I went 'Oh my gosh!'
Winters  saw an identifying mark a black dot on the forehead. "She has one on what is called ghost head, all white but one spot right there (she points to the forehead).
On February 3rd when the commercial airs,   Phoebe will likely be lounging around like many people. At eight years old "she's very cool.  She's very aloof.  She says I'll do my thing and she did."
