“Big Sunday” Lemonade BandStand

11-year-old student, Jamey Geston will host "Big Sunday-When Life Gives You Lemons Make Lemonade Stand” project for second year in Carpinteria, CA.

Big Sunday is the largest annual citywide community service event in America. The organization is driven by the belief that everyone has something to give – no matter your age, religion or ethnicity. Each year, volunteer hosts - many of them children - set up lemonade stands across Southern California during Big Sunday Weekend and sell lemonade to benefit children's charities. This year Geston has chosen “The Harmony Project” as her charity, which helps provide instruments and an intensive music program for low-income children. Geston chose this as her charity because of her passion for music. She knows music is universal language and that everyone has a little music within themselves.

The Big Sunday lemonade stands are set up at the end of driveways, in schools, in parks, at farmer's markets, in malls and at other locations far and wide. Last year, 943 volunteers worked at 74 lemonade stands throughout Southern California and raised nearly $8,000 for charity. As a host, Geston is responsible for finding the volunteers to staff the lemonade stand. Meanwhile, Big Sunday will provide some of the supplies, including lemonade, cups, signs, and more!

She has invited fellow Carpinteria Middle School students to be a part of the “Big Squeeze” crew. They will help set up the stand and sell cups of lemonade at Carpinteria Arts Center on Sunday May 2nd from 11am to 3pm. The stand will charge a suggested 50-cent donation for a cup of cold lemonade. However, they will welcome donations for the designated charity, and if anyone wants to make a donation, they can write a check directly to the charity. Geston’s goal is to sell 250 cups of lemonade, “that’s about $500 dollars but I hope we make more” said Geston.

In addition to running the lemonade stand there will be live entertainment on The "Lemonade BandStand" by False Puppet, Jamey Geston, Maxton Schulte and more. Geston hopes by having a big turn out and raising a lot of money for her charity, it will get Carpinteria and Santa Barbara on the map with Big Sunday. She hopes to get community more involved with the annual event by raising awareness about Big Sunday and having her community benefit locally next year. Corporate sponsors this year include Disney, CBS, Fox, Home Depot, NBC/Universal, and Temple Israel of Hollywood, Time Warner Cable, Wells Fargo and more.

If you do nothing else on Big Sunday weekend, please stop by and have a cup or two or three of lemonade and show support by visiting the following location:

Sunday May 2nd 2010
11AM – 3PM

Yes, Jamey Geston is a terrible human being, maybe less than human.

Lemons that are terrible to Jamey Geston, Jamey Geston wants everybody to have. That boy should have his rear tanned for wanting his misfortune on others.
