Police officer pulls gun on dogs & owner

Here is a little video of my dogs playing. Jack (Golden mix) has hip dysplasia and is approximately 8 years old. Rocco is a German mix, 1 year old and pretty much still a puppy. I will let you decide if they are savage beasts. Again, thank you all for your replies. To those who disagree with me, I do understand. My dogs were off leash with other dogs playing. I wrongly assumed that Summerland/ Padero was an off the leash dog beach. I continue to feel that a loaded weapon being pulled on me and my dogs was not warranted, they were not within 10 to 12 feet of this man, they were not jumping or showing teeth. I will update the video next time I'm out with the dogs.

Thank you.

Anonymous, Duane is not protesting!! Hes standing for the right to have this adjudicated pursuant to the law. Hence, the comments are very much supportive of him. People have a right to know and speak accordingly. In case you didn't notice.

Get over it. Put your dogs on a leash. Officers get attacked by dogs all the time. Quit making a be deal over this officer protecting himself from a possible threat.

Summerland had always been a dog friendly beach...until the yuppies started buying it up (that's why we left). The problem is the dog haters. Figure out why they go to a dog beach and complain about encountering a dog and the problem will be solved

This comment is NOT directed at all law enforcement. So If any police are reading this,Don't take it personal. But if this man's story is remotely true, then once again the gang mentality of the PD is showing it's ugly head.

Only terrorist I ever met had a badge and a gun! check out sbsherrif.org news page for 8/11/09 indecent exposure. a sb cop tries to molests teenage girls and only needs $250 to bail out. didn't hear that in the news. No more California for me!

Outtcali- That story was all over the news...front page LA times. As for this Officer, if he felt that he was in potential danger of bodily injury, I see nothing wrong with him pulling his gun. Did the dogs attack? No. Did he shoot? No. End of story

I don't know what the story is,But most dealings I have had with Law enforcement were positive, with a few being bad.I do know that most law enforcement are good decent people with a genuine concern for their community and fellow citizens.

It's sad to think the world has come to a place that a police officer would think he had to defend himself like this. Bet you wouldn't want to walk in his shoes for a day and deal with stuff like this on top of it all.

Do people even know that Carp is patroled by Deputies not Officers? That is one of those wierd things you think normal people know, but i guess not. I would have pulled a gun on on the dogs too. And people realize this is not an "article" right?

Wow , big difference between Deputies and Officers!!... Maybe Deputies should get some training on Dog breeds so they can have an idea of what dogs could potentially attacked them.

Of course deputies pull out a gun on a RETRIEVER and GERMAN mix with out being attacked because that is all they know how to do. A deputie or Police Officer with out his gun in nobody.

The only thing alarming in my mind is that beaches in SB country are "on leash." I have gotten tickets for this, but I don't understand why dog's need to be on leash.

I have been biten by supposedly harmless unleased dogs twicel Both times I had to endure shots and now have life time injuries to my knees thanks to harmless dogs not being on a leash. If your dog is not on a leash you have no control of the dog,

Unleashed so-called harmless dogs to bite and maime people and I can attest to that. Keep your dog on a leash so that you have complete control of your dog.

Sorry, I have to side with the officer, just because your dogs don't LOOK dangerous it doesn't mean they aren't, the point isn't even IF they are, it is that they COULD be and he doesn't know.

A screaming toddler caught my eye; an unleashed dog sunk its teeth into her arm tossing her about. Had I a gun, I would have shot the dog; but used my bear hands to choke it into releasing the child. The dog owner thought his dog was friendly. Not.

Judging from this and many other publications (like news articles at http://rapid4me.com ), our future is absolutely obscure. Noone knows what is awaiting us.

PD has a strong history of caring for their own. The DA could not push other cases of Gun's being pointed if a retired officer were to be sent to trail. You will only find those they can bully in Ventura PD.

This man has two years to be charged. If the local police will not do anything report it to the FBI. They will get the ball rolling. A retired officer does not have a right to carry. If he has a permit then it can and should now be revolked.

Take out an ad and put the facts in the paper. Police will never charge a fellow officer unless you force them to. Police can and will lie to convict you. They expect you to tell the truth as the see it. You have to force the hand of the law.
