At around 2:30p.m. Friday, a man doused himself in gasoline and threatened to set himself on fire behind the Big 5 on upper State Street in Santa Barbara. After a tense standoff, negotiations began to fall through as the man grew more aggravated. In the footage, you can see the man advance towards officers and the firefighters responding by spraying him down with fire-retardant foam. Seconds later, an officer fires 4 to 6 non-lethal beanbag rounds at the man who still refuses to go down. It is here that I lost sight of the assailant, but moments later I caught a view of him handcuffed on the ground. Santa Barbara Police Lieutenant Malino stated that he was subdued and taken to Cottage Hospital where he will receive treatment and pending charges.
