Fire Grows Closer to Our Home

At about 11p.m. during Thursday nights firestorm, my girlfriend and I used some connections to gain access to our home (which we had been evacuated from three days ago). During this time, I climbed up on our roof, and shot the fire blazing just over the hill behind our house. By the end of the clip, the flames were nearing the top, and we were again forced to leave. At 1:30a.m. we learned that the fire had came all the way down to the street we live on (Foothill Rd. and Mission Canyon) and had jumped the street. Still no word on whether our house is still there.

UPDATE: while covering another story today (May 8th) with CNN, a very generous employee used the power of his press pass to drive me by the home I was almost sure we lost. As we approached I gave a sigh of relief to find our house still stood, along with the rest of the block. The homes further down however, were not so lucky.

I am happy for you guys. The feeling of "not knowing what is going on" is horrible, but knowing that you lost everything is even worst.

I lived on Calle Alamo just south of Foothill. Does anyone know how that neighborhood fared? I send my prayers to the esidents of Santa Barbara.

Calle Alamo has not burned to my knowledge. The fire did however come through Stevens Park and under the bridge at Foothill. Most houses south of this were sparred. Our house sits on Foothill in between Tye and Cheltenham was still standing yesterday

Thanks Mac, I'll keep you in my prayers. It sounds like the fire is very close to you. Thanks for responding

My grandparents built a cement block house on Cheltenham near Tye. I grew up on Puesta del Sol. I hope it and you all come through this safe and sound. My prayer are with you all.
