Jesusita Fire 6 May 2009, 1:50 PM- 8 minutes after thefirst sign of fire

Jesusita Fire- Where and when it started

I observed the first puff of smoke at 1:42 on Tuesday 5 May. These photos show the progress of the fire over the next few minutes.

It looks like it started at a point just above an Edison maintainance road or a trail.

These photos were taken from a point near the La Cumbre/Hwy 101 overpass.

Our goats would have done an excellent job of clearing the fire suppression areas. Our goats love weeds and brush. We would love to help out in the future to stop these fires.

I find it interesting that they were clearing brush in that particular area. It looks kinda high on the mtn to be clearing brush

No new photos yet. It's been too smokey and too hectic. But, I'll take some of the same spot with a better camera when the smoke clears and things settle down.

Are there any more pictures taken from this vantage point later in the fire or today? I'd like to see the devastation and total loss from this spot when it's all said and done. It'll put everything into perspective.

Is there no clip shown which does not have the "live" caption? Thurs. night - Fri. morn, I watched the same firefighter pull the same hose, time after time, hours on end, all "live." Same with the most spectacular views of huge fires.

Has anyone heard anything about any closures to the 101 freeway?

Jay Lebonville says ... on Thursday, May 7 at 11:18 PM

but unless they are right there when it starts, in conditions such as those over the last few days (P.S. I studied meteorology) it can be very hard to control something like this quickly when battling nature.

I lived in SB during the paint fire. I saw it start from the living room of my home off South Turnpike. It only took a few minutes for the fire to erupt and race down the mountain. It is easy to blame the fire department....

Stuart Masterson says ... on Thursday, May 7 at 11:13 PM

It's a tragedy and everyone is affected and upset by it, but instead of trying to find someone to blame (hundreds of firefighters are working nonstop in the worst conditions imaginable) we should do what we can to help those that lost their homes.

i CANNNNNNOOOTTT believe They let it get so out of control. im saddened for all the people who will loose their homes or have already lost them over something that could have been Put out with Very little effort if attended to it sooner.

Mac Faulkner says ... on Thursday, May 7 at 5:38 PM

You really would think that when it's this size, they would attack it at full force. Just looking at all the brush that surrounds it, you can tell it was about to explode. That's our house right at the bottom there, I hope it's still there.

Elaine Gibson says ... on Thursday, May 7 at 1:21 PM

Why did it take so long to dump everything possible on this fire when it was small? Why do fires have to get out of control before enough resources are brought it to knock it out?

how did the fire lasted until. i dont no!
