In honor of National Missing Children’s Day, local children’s store Summer for Kids will be providing complimentary child identification kits for parents May 23 to May 25. These kits record fingerprints, photo, medical, dental and DNA records which dramatically increase the chance of a parent-child reunion in the event that a child goes missing.
According to Child Find of America, 2300 children are reported missing every day in America. In 1983, Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 25 National Missing Children’s Day to serve as a reminder to parents and guardians of the need for finger printing and high-quality photographs of their children for use in case of an emergency.
An officer from the Santa Barbara City Police Department will be giving a presentation at Summer for Kids on preventing child abduction and how to talk to children about how to protect themselves in adverse situations.
Customers will also receive 10 percent off of all purchases for the entire weekend. Additionally, 10 percent of all sales will go directly to Villa Majella of Santa Barbara, a non-profit organization that has provided guidance and support since 1982 to women who want to carry their babies to term, but face overwhelming challenges such as homelessness and substance abuse. The store will also accept maternity and children’s clothing and diapers to donate to Villa Majella. Customers will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from Plan Toys and Hape with every purchase made.
Additionally, Summer for Kids will be hosting games throughout the day for children of all ages, including babies. Everyone will be a winner, with prizes provided by Haba and Summer for Kids. Summer for Kids is located at 1235 Coast Village Road, Suite C, Montecito, 93108.
