It was realy surprising to see a wild cat hunting above Montecito Golf Club. I'm not an animal specialist but it didn't look like an ordinary cat. The ears were wider and ticker, the tail was shorter and wider, the body was sturdier and more masive.
It stocked something for about 4-5 minutes without moving a muscle, then made a twitch and gave up on the target. It jumped over the fence and disappeared.

Yep. It's a bobcat. I actually had one on my back patio last July. I live in Goleta. I thought it was a neighbor dog at first and opened the door to go out and see.....well, a full-grown bobcat, not a dog looked back at me...totally unperturbed.

Yep, that's definitely a Bobcat. It's such a beautiful animal. That's a nice picture. I didn't know that they lived around here.

This wildcat is a Bobcat. I saw a couple of them in Hope Ranch a few years ago and wished I had gotten a picture of them. I did get a picture of a Female Cougar with one of her three cubs that crossed the road in front of my car the week before.

The title of this piece is totally misleading...

Why should you be surprised? The cats and wildlife have no cover to hunt in above Montecito; if you don't have domestic cats or small dogs in your immediate area, put out some water at least for them -- but NOT food!
