SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara City Council members voted 7-0 to restrict the watering of turf grass in the New Year.
They voted to make the change by amending the stage three drought declaration.
Water resources manager Joshua Haggmark said the goal of the ban is to achieve 40 percent water conservation.
Haggmark said Santa Barbara is not getting enough rain from recent storms to reduce conservation efforts.
The turf watering restriction does not impact grass where children in daycare or schools play.
Haggmark said people should turn all forms of watering off for at least seven days when Santa Barbara gets rain.
