Wreckage discovered on Tepusquet Canyon Road with passenger still inside

Driver found 200 feet away from roadway

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Two men are recovering at the hospital after suffering major injuries in a crash on the 2500 block of Tepusquet Canyon Road in Santa Barbara County.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says the wreckage was discovered just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, but believe the crash happened at about 9 p.m. the night before.

Officials say the driver of a Ford Mustang drove off the roadway at a high-rate of speed and landed in a ditch.

The driver self-extricated and was found approximately 200 feet away from the roadway, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. One male passenger was still in the car when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Both men suffered major injuries according to officials and were taken to the hospital. The passenger was flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital while the driver was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Both men are described as being between 30-40 years old.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
