Woman killed in motorhome collision near Paso Robles

14-year-old boy ejected

PASO ROBLES, Calif. - One person is dead following a crash involving a motorhome at an area known as "The Y" east of Paso Robles where State Route 46 east intersects with State Route 41.

At around 2:45 p.m., a motorhome was traveling eastbound on SR 46 when the driver attempted to turn on SR 41 directly in front of a Chevrolet pickup that was traveling westbound on SR 46.

The pickup attempted to avoid a crash but ultimately collided with the motorhome.

A female passenger in the front seat of the motorhome was ejected. A 14-year-old boy who was sitting in the "living area" of the motorhome was also ejected.

The female passenger died at the scene. She has been identified as Cheryl A. Vanwettering, 37, of San Jose.

The 14-year-old male sustained major injuries and was transported by helicopter to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

Four others, including an 8-year-old girl and both drivers, were transported to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton.

Vanwettering and the two children in the motorhome were not wearing seatbelts.
Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
