SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A vehicle plunged over a hundred feet down the side of Highway 154 late Friday morning near Santa Barbara.
California Highway Patrol received the report just before noon.
According to the CHP incident log, a driver witnessed a black Chevrolet sedan going off the side of the road.
The driver of the vehicle was spotted walking away from the crash by people in the area.
At the time it was unclear if any other occupants were in the vehicle. Search and Rescue crews, Los Padres National Forest Engine 41, and Santa Barbara County fire were on the scene. The SUV was located and emergency crews discovered it was unoccupied.
The vehicle had Missouri license plates and the driver did not have any identification.
CHP said the driver of the vehicle was not cooperating and was later 'unresponsive.' He was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The eastbound lane of Highway 154 was closed for a brief period while CHP investigated.
