Vehicle fire stops traffic near State Street in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A vehicle fire on US 101 State Street exit in Santa Barbara caused lane closures and brought traffic to a crawl Thursday afternoon.

A Hyundai Santa Fe caught fire at around 4:20 p.m. and quickly became fully engulfed.

Traffic was stopped near the State Street ramp and Upper State Street was closed to westbound traffic.

Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Santa Barbara police responded to the area. By 4:35 p.m., the fire had been extinguished.

A tow truck was called in to haul away the scorched vehicle and law enforcement began the process of reopening all lanes to traffic.
