Two Sheriff's vans involved in Santa Barbara crash

Witness: Three inmates loaded into ambulance

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Two Santa Barbara County Sheriff's vans were involved in a fender bender on the 200 block of W. Carrillo Street Thursday afternoon.

Traffic was impacted but no streets were closed. Santa Barbara police officers assisted with traffic control.

A witness on scene said the vans were full with male inmates and at least three of them were loaded into an ambulance for medical treatment.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's spokesperson Kelly Hoover said there were two inmates in each van and were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for a medical evaluation. She said there were no life-threatening injuries.

It's unknown what cause the two Sheriff's vehicles to collide with each other at about 3:30 p.m. The Santa Barbara Police Department is handling the investigation. The vans were towed and debris cleared by 4:30 p.m.
