Two in critical condition after suspected DUI crash in Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif. - Two people are in critical condition after a multi-vehicle crash involving a suspected DUI driver early Thursday morning in Oxnard.

The crash happened at around 4:40 a.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and State Route 232/Vineyard Avenue.

A suspected DUI driver in a Hyundai Elantra crashed into the rear of a Ford Mustang that was stopped at a red light. The impact caused the Mustang to then crash into the back of a Honda Accord that was also stopped at the light.

The 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger of the Mustang suffered major injuries and were transported to Ventura County Medical Center. They are both in critical condition. 

No one in the Honda Accord was injured.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was uninjured. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He has been identified as Mario Arjon, 27, of Oxnard. 

California Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the crash.
