Three people injured in major crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Three people were injured Tuesday night after two separate car crashes on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Barbara, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Both crashes happened around 10 p.m. south of the Las Positas Road off-ramp on northbound Highway 101.

The first crash involved three cars and all three drivers were injured. Two of the drivers suffered minor injuries while the other driver suffered major injuries.

The driver with major injuries and a driver with minor injuries were both taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The second car crash happened 500 to 600 feet away from the first one, CHP said. That crash involved two cars and no one was injured.

California Highway Patrol shut down at least 2 northbound lanes. Multiple ambulances were called to the scene.

Santa Barbara City Fire and California Highway Patrol responded to the incident and are investigating. No one was arrested.
