SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The driver of a semi truck was transported to the hospital Thursday after he was ejected during a crash on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County.
The crash happened at around 4:45 a.m. on Highway 154 about an eighth-mile west of Paradise Road.
A semi-truck towing a trailer loaded with cargo went off the roadway and plunged 150 feet off the side.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle but was able to crawl back into the cab for warmth.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Search and Rescue responded to the scene of the crash with assistance from Los Padres National Forest.
Emergency responders used a rope system to reach the man and pull him up to safety. He was loaded into an ambulance and transported to the hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
The driver was the only occupant in the semi, it is unclear what the semi-truck was towing.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
