One dead, another seriously injured in semi-truck collision near Ventura

Three cars involved in crash

VENTURA, Calif. - One person was killed and another was seriously injured following a three-vehicle collision in Ventura Thursday morning.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Highway 126, west of Kimball Road.

 Ventura firefighters found a jack-knifed semi-truck and a pickup that was completely wrapped around a large eucalyptus tree. A sedan was also located in the median of the freeway.

Two driver of the pickup truck was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was trapped and required extrication. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the sedan was uninjured.

The two trucks were tangled and required heavy wreckers to separate them. The body of the pickup driver was removed once the cars were separated. 

The cause of the crash is under investigation by California Highway Patrol.
