Nearly 5,000 residents in Lompoc lose power following single-car crash

LOMPOC, Calif. - A single-car crash near Lompoc Thursday morning caused nearly 5,000 residents to go without power.

City electric crews turned the power off as a safety precaution after a pickup truck crashed into a power pole on San Miguelito Canyon Road just outside Lompoc city limits. The happened at about 7:40 a.m.

The crash caused the pole to break and leave power lines across the roadway in the 700 block of Miguelito Canyon Road.

The power outage area was east of O Street, south of West College Avenue, and west of A Street extending to San Miguelito Canyon Road. Some businesses in the center of town were also without power.

By 8 a.m., electric crews had restored power to all but 12 residents in the affected areas.

San Miguelito Canyon Road remains closed to traffic in the area of the downed power pole.
