Highway 154 reopens after crash shut it down

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - A two-car crash on Highway 154 near Painted Cave Road shut down the roadway in both directions late Thursday night. It has since reopened.

The crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan happened around 9:30 p.m.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says the pickup truck was traveling along the highway when it had a mechanical problem. It then veered into the lane going in the opposite direction hitting an SUV.

One woman in her forties was reportedly trapped inside the SUV and extrication was required, according to the CHP Traffic Incident website, which also reports an overturned car and a vehicle on fire.

The victims in the SUV have been identified as a man and a woman in their 60s. The woman has major injuries while the man has minor injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck has been identified as a man in his 40s having minor injuries.

The three crash victims have been taken to Cottage Hospital.

Oil, gas and other debris were sprawled across the roadway according to CHP.
