Large flames as fire sparks along US 101 in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A large brush fire broke out along the northbound lane of US 101 at the Arrellaga Street off-ramp Friday evening.

Trees and brush were engulfed and a large flame could be seen by drivers at around 6 p.m. The fire quickly burned about 100 feet of brush. 

The nearby off-ramp was closed briefly and traffic was slowed while firefighters worked to put out the flames. 

According to California Highway Patrol incident log, a homeless encampment may have been to blame for the fire.

The fire was extinguished in about an hour.
