Elderly driver mistakenly hits gas accelerator and nearly crashes into Solvang hotel

SOLVANG, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash involving an elderly man at Hotel Corque in Solvang Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews with the Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to the hotel located in the 400 block of Alisal Road at 2:16 p.m.

Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni said the elderly driver mistakenly hit his car's gas accelerator instead of the brake and drove over the sidewalk and damaged a parked car before coming to rest next to the hotel.

The building was not damaged. The elderly driver was treated on scene by medical personnel but was not injured in the crash, according to Zaniboni. The driver was not taken to the hospital and no one else was injured in the incident.
