GOLETA, Calif. - Two lanes of U.S. Highway 101 northbound at Patterson Avenue in Goleta were blocked Tuesday afternoon causing a major traffic backup for miles after a dump truck carrying mud from Montecito lost its load.
The incident was reported just after 4 p.m. The California Highway Patrol reported on their traffic incident website that the truck's tailgate was open when the incident occurred.
Caltrans crews spent a couple of hours cleaning up the mud from the roadway.
Additionally, a three-car crash on U.S. 101 at Mission Street contributed to the slow commute Tuesday evening.
