Driver flees scene after two-vehicle crash on US 101 in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Three occupants escaped a crash without injury after the vehicle they were in collided with another vehicle on US 101 in Santa Barbara Sunday morning.

The crash happened at around 8:00 a.m. in the northbound lane near the Las Positas exit.

A white pickup and a Toyota sedan went off the roadway into an embankment and into some vegetation. The sedan rolled and came to rest on its roof in the brush.

A small fire broke out in the sedan, which spread to some of the vegetation in the immediate area.

Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames in about five minutes.

Two northbound lanes of US 101 were closed for a brief period while crews extinguished the flames and investigated the crash.

The three occupants of the white pickup suffered no injuries and were able to safely remove themselves from the vehicle.

The driver of the Toyota sedan was not located. Authorities believe the driver fled the scene following the crash.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. At this time it is unclear what led to the two vehicles colliding and leaving the roadway.
