SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - One person is dead after a sailboat overturned about less than a mile from the shore of the Santa Barbara Harbor Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews received the call at around 2:45 p.m.
Initial reports indicated that there was a collision involving a jet ski and a sailboat next to Stearns Wharf.
According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, there was no collision and the sailboat simply overturned.
One of the occupants of the sailboat died during the incident. It is unclear at this time if it was a drowning or an unrelated health incident.
Three other occupants of the boat were uninjured.
The entrance to Stearns Wharf was closed to non-emergency vehicles for some time as part of the rescue.
Police say a crime was not committed and drugs or alcohol are not believed to have contributed in the crash.
