GOLETA, Calif. - Emergency crews responded to reports of a train that struck and killed a pedestrian near the Goleta train station located at 25 S. La Patera Lane.
The deadly collision was reported shortly after 12 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators said a woman stepped in front of a northbound Amtrak passenger train as it was slowing down to stop at the train station.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as 65-year-old Ester Lopez de Reyes, a resident of Goleta. She was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt in the incident.
The incident is under investigation.

This is the second death by train in the same general area in one week. A train struck and killed a 51-year-old bicyclist riding on the train tracks near the Goleta train station on July 20.
