Atascadero woman killed in early morning Santa Barbara crash

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Garden Street that killed a 28-year-old Atascadero woman.

Police responded just after 1 a.m. Friday to a report of a black 2013 Subaru Crosstrek hitting a palm tree.

According to CHP, the woman was headed southbound on Highway 101 when she veered to the right, left the roadway, and crashed into a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

The driver's identity has not been released. No other vehicles were involved.

No lanes were blocked during the crash investigation, according to the CHP. Investigators said it's unknown at this time if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
