5-year-old girl hit by sheriff's patrol vehicle in Carpinteria

Girl suffered non-life threatening injuries

CARPINTERIA, Calif. - A 5-year-old girl was transported to the hospital Friday evening after being hit by a Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle in Carpinteria.

The girl was struck on the 5900 block of Birch Street at around 5:50 p.m.

According to a press release from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, the child ran into the street from in between two parked cars.

The sheriff's vehicle was reported to be traveling at a speed of 10 miles per hour.

Following the collision, the child was taken to the curb side by deputies who provided first aid until an ambulance arrived.

The child was transported with a family member to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition is believed to be non-life threatening at this time.

The collision will be investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
