UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

With official practice beginning on August 15, the timing of Ema Boateng's departure from the UCSB men's soccer team is tough for the program. But the Gauchos have a roster of about 30 players and the senior-laden squad expects to still be a force this year.

Boateng signed a 3.5-year professional contract with Heisingborgs IF, a Premier League Club in Sweden.

Boateng was the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2012 after scoring four goals with four assists. He figured to be a center piece of the Gauchos attack this season.

He was Gatorade's National Soccer Player of the Year in his senior season at Cate School in Carpinteria.
