SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

Left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert added a new pitch and some new found velocity to land a scholarship to USC.

Last year as a freshman for Santa Barbara City College, he developed a splitter that helped him go 9-2 with a 2.43 ERA. He was the WSC North Pitcher of the Year.

Gilbert has now increased his fastball from around 85 miles per hour into the low 90's.

He will pitch for SBCC this season before heading to USC.
