Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is active and will play Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers in the wake of the death of his 2-year-old son.
Peterson is playing just two days after the boy died in Sioux Falls, S.D., from injuries suffered in an alleged assault.
Before Peterson learned of his son's death on Friday, he told reporters that he would play.
The child had been in critical condition in a Sioux Falls hospital with severe head injuries since Wednesday before he died Friday morning after being removed from life support.
Joseph Patterson, 27, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery in the case. He was being held on $750,000 cash bond after appearing in court Friday.
Peterson, last year's NFL MVP, is second in the league with 421 yards rushing yards this season.
