Santa Barbara may have had a victory taken away at UC Riverside by a controversial foul call with 9 seconds left in regulation. The officials initially overturned the call but then gathered again and decided not to reverse the call. Robert Smith drained the two free throws to force overtime and then the Highlanders ran away from the Gauchos in overtime to win 79-70. Phil Martin scored six of his 33 points in overtime as the Highlanders improve to 3-1 in the Big West. Santa Barbara was led by Orlando Johnson's 23 points as they fell to 2-1 in league.
