Dons Beat Royals In Classic Rivalry Game

Written by KEYT Sports

In a game filled with last second shots, Santa Barbara High School outlasted San Marcos in double-overtime 73-71 in boys basketball. The Dons thought they had the game won in regulation but Ian Douglas drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime at 56 apiece.

Santa Barbara was leading by two in the first overtime but Thayer White's put back at the buzzer sent the game into a second overtime.

Finally the Dons got by the Royals in the second overtime for their first victory over San Marcos since the 2008-'09 season. Emilio Gonzalez scored a team-high 23 points as the Dons improve to 2-0 in the Channel League and 7-7 for the year.

White had a game-high 29 points for the Royals who fell to 1-2 in league.
