FRESNO, Calif. - In the final game of the Fresno State Kick-Off, UC Santa Barbara fell short against Fresno State in a 6-5, eight-inning battle on Sunday afternoon.
UCSB finished tournament play at 4-1 and are now 6-3 on the season.
Santa Barbara went ahead early in the first inning thanks to a two out RBI from Lauren Boser.
With runners on first and second, the Gaucho first baseman sent the 0-1 pitch into right field to bring Kristen Clark across home plate.
Behind excellent base running, Santa Barbara again pulled out a run facing two outs in the following inning.
The second opened with back-to-back strikeouts, but Stacy Cavazos was the first Gaucho get on base after taking a hit by a pitch. The freshman promptly moved into scoring position by stealing second while Clark was up at bat.
Clark joined her fellow freshman on the bags after connecting with an infield single to the shortstop, which moved Cavazos to third.
With two speedsters on base, the Gauchos went for a double steal and came up with their second run of the game.
Responding to UCSB's 2-0 lead, Fresno State tallied three runs in the bottom of the second.
The Bulldogs capitalized on a pair of Gaucho errors and were able to score on three consecutive at-bats.
With a runner on second, Wisdom would bring her team out jam with her second strikeout of the evening.
Overall, the senior finished with three strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.
Moving to the top of the third, UCSB quickly eliminated Fresno State's lead after Boser tripled to right field with a shot that soared its way to the wall.
Kathryn Pilpil took care of the rest with her ensuing at bat, as she connected on a single to left field for the game-tying RBI.
The teams remained gridlocked at 3-3 through the next 2.5 innings with the Gaucho defense only allowing the Bulldogs at the most four at bats through the fifth.
Later in the sixth, Clark roped her third triple of the year to right field to put UCSB's leading run just 60 feet away from home.
Arianna Palomares didn't keep the freshman waiting long and delivered an RBI with a single to left field, putting UCSB on top 4-3.
As they did in the third, the Bulldogs had a quick answer for the Gauchos with Stesha Brazil knocking a lead-off homer over left field.
After a scoreless seventh, Wisdom delivered the clutch two-out single to left field and sent Clark home in regaining the Gauchos' lead.
With home field advantage, Fresno State had the last say on offense and were able to get their runner home from second with its first at bat. The ball was hit to left field where Clark picked it up and tried to beat the runner coming home with a scorching throw.
The throw made it to MeShalon Moore at home, but Michelle Solomon's hard slide disrupted Moore's catch on what was the game-tying play.
A groundout to third advanced Fresno State's Christina Rodriguez to third base, setting the stage for the game winning RBI single.
Kierra Willis hit a grounder to short, but once the toss was made to first, Boser looked to throw the Rodriguez out at the plate. The throw went wide, however, and the Bulldogs pulled out the extra innings win.
