SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - With temperatures hitting triple digits for much of the ride, American Taylor Phinney was too hot to handle for the rest of the field as he cruised to a 12 second win during Stage 5 of the 2014 Amgen Tour of California.
Phinney broke away from the field with 15 miles to go on the descent off San Marcos Pass and he never looked back.
It's his first career Amgen Tour of California stage win.
The 107.4 mile trek began in Pismo Beach and ended along the waterfront on Cabrillo Boulevard in Santa Barbara.
The overall leader remains Bradley Wiggins with three days left.
