Harris is headed to Ivy League school...

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Bishop Diego High School record-setting running back John Harris has verbally committed to Columbia University in New York City.

He is expected to officially sign with the Lions on February 7, 2018 which is National Signing Day.

Harris is one of the top running backs to ever play in the Santa Barbara area.

He played on varsity all four years and rushed for over five thousand yards in his career including a school-record 2,263 yards this year. He set a Santa Barbara County record with 34 rushing touchdowns this season.

Harris led Bishop Diego to three championships this year: A CIF-Southern Section Division 6 crown, a CIF Division 3-AA SoCal Regional title and a CIF-Division 3-AA State Bowl Game Championship.

The Cardinals had never won a CIF-SS title and they became the first Santa Barbara County high school to win a State football title.

The 6'2 Harris is also excellent on defense whether rushing the passer or playing safety.
