AZUSA, Calif. - The winning streak continues and sweet sixteen will always be savored at San Marcos High School.
The Royals capture the school's first-ever boys basketball CIF-Southern Section championship as they defeated Riverside-Poly 67-47 in division 2A.
It's the Royals 16th straight win with all of those victories coming in 2018.
Stef Korfas scored 19 points and dished out 5 assists while Jackson Stormo added 17 points with 11 rebounds as the Royals pulled away from the Bears.
With Riverside-Poly packing their defense around the 6'9 Stormo, the Royals David Frohling and Ryan Godges opened up the game by making three-point shots to give San Marcos a 6-0 lead. Frohling added another three-pointer in the quarter as the Royals led 11-6 after one.
Stormo scored two baskets early in the second quarter and Korfas hit a couple shots from the outside as San Marcos went into halftime leading 26-19.
Stormo scored three inside baskets in the third quarter and Korfas added seven points in that quarter as the Royals led 42-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Royals started the final quarter strong as Korfas made a driving layup and he was fouled.
He then found Stormo underneath on an inbounds pass and the big center made the layup and was fouled as well, San Marcos led 50-37.
Stormo followed with another layup and Godges hit a midrange jumper as the Royals pulled away from the Bears.
With about three minutes left, the Royals broke the press, Nate Fay found a wide open Stormo who sealed the game with a slam dunk.
San Marcos wins the CIF-SS Division 2A crown with a 26-6 record and will host a first round CIF State game next week.
Godges finished with 14 points and Frohling added 11.
Beau Allen and Nate Fay played terrific defense on Bears star sophomore Lamont Butler who needed 21 shots to reach 19 points.
