CANYON COUNTRY, Calif. - The Cardinals have finally soared to the top!
Bishop Diego High School won its first CIF football championship in school history as they beat Golden Valley 37-6 to capture the CIF Southern Section Division 6 title.
Bishop Diego forced five turnovers and broke open a tight game with three touchdowns in less than five minutes in the fourth quarter.
Isaiah Veal caught a 34 yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter for the only points in the first half.
He played a huge role on defense as Veal and Dylan Street each intercepted two passes and Street also blocked a first half field goal.
Senior John Harris scored early in the third quarter on an 8-yard touchdown run and the Cardinals led 14-0.
After Golden Valley scored a touchdown late in the third quarter, The Cardinals answered with a 60-yard touchdown run by sophomore Adrian Sorocco who was also a force on defense in this game.
Harris added two short touchdown runs in the fourth quarter as he finished the game with 105 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
On Sunday the 13-1 Cardinals will likely receive a CIF State regional bowl bid.
