GOLETA, Calif. - Jayson Williams found some time for his only basket of the night. The sophomore's layup at the buzzer gave Dos Pueblos a 41-39 upset win over rival San Marcos in a Channel League game.
It was an ugly and sloppy game for much of the night until the last couple of minutes. Derek Abbott's basket with 2:30 left produced DP's first lead of the game at 36-34.
With the score tied at 36, Abbott drove in for a layup and he was fouled. His free throw put the Chargers up 39-36 with 22.3 seconds left.
The Royals Wesley Ghan Gibson drained a three-pointer with just eight seconds left to tie it up at 39.
DP just did get the inbounds pass in to Abbott who handed it off to Williams with about five ticks left. He drove to the bucket and his layup as time expired set off a wild celebration at Sovine Gym as the students poured onto the floor.
DP is now 1-2 league while San Marcos drops to 0-2.
