LANCASTER, Calif. - Dos Pueblos senior running back Rob Alfaro was stopped just short of the goal-line as time expired and the Chargers lost an epic CIF Division 10 Championship game at Quartz Hill 26-21.
Dos Pueblos had grabbed a 21-20 lead with under 2:30 to play in the game on a short touchdown run by Alfaro and an extra point by Jesse Mollkoy. The Chargers converted two 4th down conversions during that 76-yard scoring drive.
But the Chargers allowed a long pass play and UCLA-commit Matthew Tago scored his third touchdown of the game with 1:33 left to play in the game and the Rebels led 26-21 after their two-point conversion failed.
DP drove down the field to the 22-yard line and facing a fourth and ten with under 20 seconds left, Jake Ramiriez scrambled and somehow found Cyrus Wallace who made a great catch at the 5-yard line for the first down.
The Chargers spiked the ball and after an incomplete pass in the endzone, only two seconds remained.
DP ran up the middle but Alfaro was whistled down just shy of the endzone to set off a wild celebration for Quartz Hill.
The Chargers were denied the school's first CIF-SS football title but finish the year with its best record ever at 12-2.
