UCSB Moves to 2-1 in Big West Conference

SANTA BARBARA, Calif -

Five Gauchos scored in double-figure as UCSB won at Northridge 79-69 to improve to 2-1 in the Big West Conference. Alan Williams led the way with 16 points followed by 15 from Michael Bryson. Kyle Boswell added 14 points and 8 assists while Taran Brown and Sam Beeler scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Cal Poly lost at home to Long Beach State 63-62. The Mustangs are 3-1 in the Big West.

The Gauchos women's team was blown out at home by Cal State Northridge 64-46. UCSB is 0-3 in the Big West Conference. Cal Poly won in overtime 107-102 at Long Beach State to move to 3-1 in league.

The Santa Barbara High School girls hoop team defeated Rio Mesa 60-41 behind 31 points from Amber Melgoza. They are now 16-3 on the year.

The UCSB men's volleyball team outlasted top-ranked Stanford in five sets at Rob Gym. Down two sets to one, the Gauchos won the fourth set 25-23 and took the fifth set 15-12 to improve to 3-0 on the year.

Laguna Beach won the 15th Annual Tournament of Champions in girls high school water polo. The Oilers beat Newport Harbor 9-5 in the final. Santa Barbara beat Agoura in the seventh place game.
