The New York Islanders named Doug Weight as assistant general manager on Monday.
Weight, 43, served as a special advisor to general manager Garth Snow. He also will remain an assistant coach on head coach Jack Capuano's staff.
The Islanders are named Greg Cronin, Bob Corkum and Matt Bertani as assistant coaches.
Weight has been an assistant coach with the team since retiring as a player after the 2010-11 season. He spent the final three of his 19 years with the Islanders.
As a player, Weight had 278 goals and 1,033 points in 1,238 games with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks and Islanders. He was a second-round draft pick of the Rangers in 1990.
He helped the Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in 2006 and had 23 goals and 49 assists in 97 playoff games.
