Rio Mesa graduate Eric Ramirez became the only Ventura County high school player to have his name called in the 2014 MLB draft.
The Milwaukee Brewers selected the first baseman in the 37th round. Ramirez also signed a letter of intent to the University of Hawaii.
"I don't want to miss out on a college experience. I would be the first out of my family to go as well," said Ramirez.
"We've been always working towards this dream and to see it finally paying off, I feel real proud of him," said Alex Ramirez, Eric's older brother.
