UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - There is no room for error for UCSB as they try and get back to the NCAA Regionals for a second straight year. Anything less than a three-game sweep over Cal State Northridge will damage their postseason hopes.
Santa Barbara edged the Matadors 4-3 in the series opener as the Gauchos scored all of their runs in the 3rd inning with two outs. Robbie Nesovic knocked in a pair with a single. Peter Maris and Andrew Calica also had run-scoring singles in the frame.
Justin Jacome improved to 6-2 on the year and once again UCSB got great bullpen work out of setup man Greg Mahle and closer Dillon Tate. They combined to throw 3 and a third innings of shutout ball.
UCSB is now 28-14-1 on the year and 8-11 in the Big West Conference.
