Bright future expected for Harris as he signs to play football at Ivy League Columbia

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - John Harris is headed to the bright lights and the big city.

The Bishop Diego High School star running back signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to play at Ivy League school Columbia University in New York City.

Harris is excited to play for a Columbia team that is on the rise after finishing 8-2 last season.

Harris plans on studying biomedical engineering.

He leaves Bishop Diego as one of the top football players in the history of the school.

This past season he set a school record with 2,263 rushing yards and established a new Santa Barbara County record with 34 touchdowns on the ground.

He led the Cardinals to three championships this past season, a CIF-Southern Section Division 6 title, a SoCal Division 3-AA Regional crown and a CIF-State Division 3-AA Bowl Game championship.
