Gauchos walk past San Jose State in baseball
Mahle draws bases loaded walk in 9th to win it for Gauchos
Greg Mahle's bases loaded walk in the ninth inning gave UCSB a 5-4 win over San Jose State in the opener of a three-game series in Santa Barbara.
UCSB jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings but San Jose State scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Gauchos tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Trinkwon that plated Woody Woodward who had tripled.
UCSB ace pitcher Austin Pettibone got a no decision after working eight innings, allowing 8 hits and four runs but only one was earned. Mahle not only had the game-winning rbi but he pitched one inning of relief to record the win. The Gauchos are now 5-4. Same two teams play Saturday at 2 p.m. and again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
