SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

A local youth non-profit kick started their fundraising campaign today in Santa Maria. The fundraiser gives people a chance to give back to our troops overseas.

Camp Fire Central Coast of California was at Buena Vista Park in Santa Maria. Kids were busy with arts and crafts and outdoor games. They kicked off their candy fundraiser, and the proceeds they make will go to benefit a variety of programs the camp runs throughout the year. In addition, anyone who buys a box of candy can request that the non-profit send it as part of a care package for soldiers overseas.

"It gives them a sense of being able to help someone on the Central Coast, the kids in their program, but it also helps the troops overseas. It's their way of helping but not actually eating the candy themselves," says Nora O'Donnell, board president of the non-profit.

The fundraiser runs for the next month. Each box of candy is $5 each. If you'd like to support the fundraiser, visit campfirecentralcoast.org or call (805) 773-5126.
