ISLA VISTA, Calif. -

A tragic weekend in Isla Vista after the body of a young woman was found on the beach.

According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Kelly Hoover, a bicyclist spotted the body on the shore below the 6800 block of Del Playa Drive just after 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning and called 9-1-1. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Sierra Markee-Winkler of Eureka.  She was a UCSB student and lived in Isla Vista. Hoover said, "Some family right now is getting the terrible news that their daughter is no longer here and that is just really really difficult. Its hard to imagine how hard this must be for that family. We are heartbroken about it."

Investigators are still trying to determine how Markee-Winkler died. Hoover said, "The Coroner's Office is investigating this young woman's death. At this point, we don't know if she drowned or fell off the cliff.  It is under investigation."
