Santa Margarita fire burns 120 acres, 100% contained

KOA campground voluntarily evacuated.

SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. - UPDATES 

[Wednesday, Sept. 6] The Margarita Fire is now 100% contained according to Cal Fire officials. The fire scorched 120 acres as it burned about seven miles south east of Santa Margarita.

[Tuesday, Sept. 5] Cal Fire SLO reports containment of the Margarita Fire is at 80% Tuesday morning. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped and full containment is expected Tuesday night.

Fire crews are working to gain the upper-hand on a fire burning near Santa Margarita Lake in San Luis Obispo County.

According to Cal Fire SLO, the Margarita Fire broke out at Pozo Road and Santa Margarita Lake Road just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

KOA campground voluntarily evacuated.

The fire has burned 120 acres, and is 60% contained as of 6:00 p.m. Monday, Cal Fire SLO said. Pozo Road is closed for an approximately three-mile stretch along the burn area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

San Luis Obispo County Fire and Cal Fire responded with nine engines, dozers, and hand crews.
