VENTURA, Calif. - Firefighters battled a vegetation fire that was sparked by a vehicle fire Saturday afternoon in Ventura.
At around 2:15 p.m., firefighters and California Highway Patrol responded for a vehicle fire near Olivas Park Drive and Palma Drive.
Flames from the vehicle fire ignited nearby brush. The fire quickly grew to an acre as it burned in a river bottom.
By 4 p.m., the fire had spread to about two acres and was 50 percent contained. Crews were expected to remain on mop up duty for two to four hours until the fire was fully extinguished.
Heavy wind throughout the area has been reported throughout the weekend.
Ventura County Fire Department assisted Ventura City Fire Department with the fire.
